[de.NBI Cloud Berlin] Update & Action Required: de.NBI Cloud Berlin Services Resuming

11.09.2025 - 13:14
Dear de.NBI Cloud Users,

We are pleased to announce that core services at the de.NBI Cloud site in Berlin are beginning to come back online following our data center migration. Thank you for your extended patience during this complex process.

To restore public network access to your projects and virtual machines (e.g., SSH access), several steps are required due to the new network infrastructure. Please perform the following actions in our dashboard: https://denbi-cloud.bihealth.org

Action Required: To-Do List
1. Create a New Router
You must create a new router in your project and connect your internal project network to the external network (e.g., public or dmz).

Instructions: Guide on creating a router and network: https://cloud.denbi.de/wiki/quickstart/#creating-a-router-and-a-network

2. Allocate and Associate New Floating IPs
The old Floating IPs are no longer valid. You will need to allocate new Floating IPs and associate them with the virtual machines that require public access. We now offer two types of Floating IPs:

Public: These IPs are used for secure management of your instances. They are not directly exposed to the internet and can only be reached via SSH through our jumphost: jumphost-01.bihealth.org.

DMZ: These are public IPv4 addresses directly accessible from the internet on ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS). Use these for public-facing services like web servers.

3. (Optional) Reconfigure Load Balancers & Update Public DNS
If you use a load balancer to expose a web service, you must allocate a new dmz Floating IP and assign it to the load balancer to restore public acces, Remember to update your public DNS records (at your domain registrar) to point to your new Floating IP address.

4. Start Your Instances
Once the networking is configured, you can start your instances again.

5. Update DNS Nameservers in Instances
After starting your instances, you must update their network configuration to resolve domain names correctly. Edit your nameserver settings (typically in /etc/resolv.conf on Linux):

Remove old nameserver IPs: 172.16.106.4 and 172.16.106.5

Add new nameserver IPs: 10.57.196.4 and 10.57.196.5

Status of Remaining Services
Please be aware that the following key services are not yet restored. We are actively working to bring them online and will notify you as they become available:

Shared storage services (Manila)

The de.NBI Portal integration for managing project resources

Our managed Kubernetes service (Kubermatic KKP)

Thank you for your cooperation.
