The de.NBI cloud is a fully academic cloud, free of charge for academic users, where academic cloud centers provide storage and computing resources for locally stored data. All layers, i.e. hardware and personnel resources, IT administration and operation, as well as deployment of operating systems, frameworks and workflows are provided by the local cloud centers.
The de.NBI cloud provides different project types to cater for different user requirements:

Using the de.NBI Cloud: Cloud Portal, Resource Applications & Single Sign-On
Through a cloud federation concept, all de.NBI cloud sites are integrated into a single cloud platform. The user will be guided to the respective project type and is assigned to a suitable cloud location to host their project via the central de.NBI cloud portal application process. The system is based on Single sign-on (SSO) and Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure (AAI) using the Life Science Login provider and eduGAIN.
Further information about the de.NBI Cloud can be found in this flyer.
The eight de.NBI Cloud locations have established IT security management systems.
Most de.NBI Cloud locations are certified according to ISO / IEC 27001 or TÜV IT Trusted Site Infrastructure or BSI IT Grundschutz. Locations marked with an * are still in the process of fully implementing their ISMS before being officially certified.
At the moment, the de.NBI Cloud sites at DKFZ Heidelberg, Tübingen University and BIH/Charite Berlin also support hosting and processing of pseudonymized sensitive data projects. If you want to run a sensitive data project on the de.NBI Cloud, please make sure to indicate your intent and the nature of the data in the project application form. Please contact us if you have further questions!
