[de.NBI Cloud Tuebingen Production] OpenStack Upgrade Completed & Manila Module Scheduled

27.05.2025 - 14:46
Dear de.NBI Cloud Users in Tübingen,

We are delighted to inform you that we have successfully completed our upgrade procedures, with the final task — the OpenStack upgrade — now finished. This brings improved stability and introduces new features to our de.NBI cluster.

We’re also pleased to announce that Ceph storage is now available as a volume backend in production at Region1 like Region 2.

During the upgrade, we encountered some issues related to IPv6 connectivity and API access. These issues have been resolved. However, if you still experience any problems, please let us know so we can help you soon. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

With the updated OpenStack version, we also plan to enable the Manila module, which allows you to use file sharing as a service in your project. This is scheduled for Monday, June 2nd, 2025 at 9:30 AM. There will be no downtime, except for a brief restart of the dashboard services, which may last a few minutes. We will keep you informed until this task is completed, which we expect to be by Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025.

Finally, as part of our ongoing improvements, we plan to retire the Quobyte storage system.
Please do not create any new volumes using the Quobyte type. From now on, Ceph will be the default for volume creation in both regions — please do not change this setting.

Additionally, if Ceph space is available to you, we recommend not storing important data on Quobyte. A separate announcement will follow with instructions on how to migrate your data from Quobyte to Ceph.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

On behalf of the de.NBI Cloud Tübingen Team,
Amir Baleghi
