[de.NBI Cloud Tuebingen Production] Ceph Cluster Update – R2 (January 31 – February 7, 2025)

30.01.2025 - 06:44
Dear Users of the de.NBI Cloud Tübingen,

As part of our ongoing upgrade process, we are pleased to inform you that we have successfully completed the most challenging phase of updating our Ceph cluster at R1. While some minor tasks remain to fully finalize the upgrade, this progress will enable us to introduce a new feature: Ceph-supported backend storage for volumes at R1 in the de.NBI Cloud. We anticipate completing the remaining steps without any service interruptions, as was the case previously.

Additionally, we would like to inform you that we are planning to upgrade our Ceph cluster at R2. Given the significantly higher workload at R2, we will proceed with extra caution. Since our Ceph clusters are designed to be highly available, users should not experience any disruptions beyond occasional minor performance degradation during the upgrade. However, if you encounter any unexpected errors or issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.

if we should anticipate any downtime during the process, we will inform you in advance.
To ensure a smooth upgrade, we kindly ask that you postpone running any new heavy workloads until the end of next week.

The upgrade process for R2 is scheduled to begin on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 08:00 AM and is expected to be completed by the end of Friday, February 7, 2025.

This upgrade at R2 will only affect the R2 S3 service (s3-dc2.denbi.uni-tuebingen.de) and volumes of VMs based on Ceph storage. Quobyte services and volumes will not be affected.

If you require any assistance or have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to your feedback.

Best regards,
Amir Balaghi
